About The Job

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations of the power generation plant, ensuring high levels of performance, safety, environmental compliance, team development, and community engagement. The role requires a strategic yet hands-on leader who can manage complex operations while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Specific Skills
Professional Experience
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in power plant operations, including at least 5 years in a senior managerial role
  • Experience in PEAT-TO-POWER or Solid Fuel Energy Plants
Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of power generation systems, plant engineering, and maintenance
  • Proven experience in predictive and preventive maintenance planning
  • Familiarity with modern diagnostic tools, control systems, and energy efficiency solutions.
Leadership & Management Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Excellent coaching, communication, and decision-making abilities
  • Strong financial management and budget control experience
Compliance & Safety
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in the energy sector
  • Experience leading compliance audits and safety programs
   
Responsibilities & Duties
  1. Team Leadership & People Management
    • Inspire and empower teams (engineers, operators, technicians, admin staff).
    • Coach, mentor, and promote professional growth
    • Set clear performance expectations and lead by example
    • Collaborate with HR to recruit and retain top talent
  2. Operational Excellence
    • Manage daily operations from peat farming to power generation
    • Lead troubleshooting during breakdowns and resolve complex issues swiftly
    • Implement and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  3. Performance Monitoring & Improvement
    • Track plant KPIs (availability, efficiency, cost)
    • Identify trends and implement performance improvement strategies
    • Explore and adopt new technologies and industry best practices
  4. Financial Oversight
    • Develop and manage the plant budget
    • Ensure cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high standards of safety and reliability
  5. Environmental Compliance & Sustainability
    • Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations
    • Reduce emissions and improve waste management practices.
    • Promote responsible and sustainable peat production and use.
  6. Community Relations & Communication
    • Act as the primary liaison to the local community and stakeholders
    • Provide transparent updates on plant operations and impacts.
    • Build trust through open and proactive communication.
  7. Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE)
    • Champion workplace safety and regulatory compliance
    • Lead regular audits, hazard identification, and emergency response drills
    • Foster a culture where everyone feels empowered to report safety concerns.
  8. Strategic Oversight of Peat Fuel Operations
    • Ensure efficient production and management of peat fuel
    • Integrate fuel supply with overall plant efficiency goals
 
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Energy Engineering. Master's degree is an added advantage
