About The Job

The Provincial Coordinator–Maize and Beans Value Chain Technical Lead will provide technical direction and leadership for developing and scaling the maize and beans value chain within a youth agribusiness and climate resilience program. The position will focus on productivity enhancement, postharvest systems improvement, mechanization, and inclusive youth engagement. The Coordinator will strengthen market
linkages and partnerships that enhance value addition and income generation among youth and women in the sub-sector. The Coordinator will also collaborate with partners to enhance productivity, market competitiveness, and value addition, contributing to the overall goal of empowering 500,000 rural youth (70% women) over three years.

Specific Skills
Professional Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in cereal and legume value chain development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Maize and Beans production systems and value addition.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills, particularly in youth-focused programs.
  • Proven ability to integrate climate-smart and digital agriculture into programming.
  • Experience working with donor-funded initiatives and multi-stakeholder collaborations.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and analytical abilities.
Desirable skills
  • Ability to manage day-to-day project operations, including scheduling, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Skilled in multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with procurement procedures, inventory tracking, and coordinating logistics for meetings and field visits.
  • Capable of supporting financial reporting and ensuring compliance with donor and organizational policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities in English and Kinyarwanda; French proficiency is an added advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management tools like Trello, Asana, or MS Project.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams including donors, government agencies, and field staff.
  • Skilled in maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and capturing lessons learned and success stories.
  • Ability to respond to dynamic project needs and contribute to solution-oriented approaches.
  • Understanding of development and agriculture sector dynamics, with sensitivity to local contexts and youth empowerment initiatives.
Responsibilities & Duties
  1. Value Chain Planning and Execution (20%)
    • Lead the planning and execution of Maize and Beans value chain activities at the provincial level
  2. Productivity Enhancement and Climate-Smart Agriculture (20%)
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve productivity, quality, and profitability
    • Promote integrated soil fertility management (ISFM), crop diversification, and CSA practices
  3. Capacity Building and Youth Enterprise Development (20%)
    • Facilitate capacity building for youth groups, cooperatives, and agripreneurs
    • Encourage adoption of digital solutions and mechanization services for youth enterprises
  4. Market Linkages and Value Chain Integration (15%)
    • Support linkages among producers, processors, financial institutions, and markets
    • Strengthen postharvest handling, aggregation, and cooperative business models
  5. Partnership and Stakeholder Collaboration (10%)
    • Collaborate with government, private sector, and research partners for synergy and scaling
  6. Monitoring, Documentation and Knowledge Management (10%)
    • Document field results, innovations, and lessons to inform adaptive program management
  7. Reporting and Compliance (3%)
    • Ensure adherence to program standards and timely submission of reports
  8. Team Coordination & Administrative Support (2%)
    • Provide regular updates and reports to the Project Manager
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning processes
    • Maintain accurate documentation and records of field activities.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, or Rural Development.
