  • The Head Pharmacist needs to be deadline-oriented to ensure that tasks are  completed on time. They should have strong time-management skills, the ability to  prioritize tasks, and excellent communication skills to keep their team on track. 
  • The Head Pharmacist’s responsibilities include ensuring customer service, ensuring  operational compliance, exceptional pharmacy standards and the prevention of  stock losses. They should be a responsible leader with an analytical and strategic  mind and have a broad knowledge of the pharmacy business. 
Specific Skills
  • Being registered with the National Pharmaceutical Council and Licensed to practice in a pharmacy
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience managing Big Pharmacies/Large Pharmacy chains
  • Experience in managing wholesale Pharmacy stores
  • Experience in Pharmacy Dealership/Distribution
  • Familiarity with FDA Inspections & Licensing requirements
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Dispensing of pharmaceuticals to patients or medical practitioners; makes decisions  regarding generic substitution of prescribed pharmaceuticals. 
  • Consults with patients and/or medical practitioners on drug indications/contraindications, dosage, drug interactions, and side effects; provides other  drug and pharmaceutical information as appropriate. 
  • Ensure coverage of the pharmacy by licensed medical team (Pharmacist and nurses); be  certain that the pharmacy is properly registered and operating in accordance with the  present laws, rules, and regulations. 
  • Establishes and maintains methods and manner of storage and recordkeeping systems  to provide for safekeeping of pharmaceuticals. 
  • Ensure against unauthorized entry into the pharmacy's dispensing and compounding  area and ensure appropriate security.
  • Instruct ALL employees, either orally or in writing, at regular intervals relative to the  appropriate activities in connection with the practice of pharmacy.
  • Taking patient's histories as required; makes initial clinical assessments and refers  patients to appropriate clinicians.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous  quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control  standards.
  • Ensures that insurance invoices are submitted in the agreed timelines.
  • Working closely with the head of operations to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Trains the pharmacy team, oversees their daily activities and shares feedback with the  team.
  • Ensures that requisitions are sent on time.
  • Driving pharmacy sales to achieve monthly sales targets.

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
  • Doctor of Pharmacy would be an added advantage
