Our client is a prominent Pan-African Asset Management firm expanding its operations in Rwanda.

As part of its commitment to fostering private sector development, the firm is setting up a local investment fund dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The successful candidate will not only be instrumental in the fund’s success in Rwanda but will also contribute to broader regional initiatives, helping drive impactful and sustainable economic growth across Africa.

Job Purpose

The Investment Associate will be responsible for supporting the full investment lifecycle, from origination to execution to monitoring, with increasing autonomy and ownership. The role is based in Kigali and is suited to an experienced investment professional with a deep understanding of the local or regional market and a strong track record in financial analysis, deal execution, and stakeholder
engagement.

Specific Skills
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or corporate finance.
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking with experience in financial modeling, valuation, and investment analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing transactions, including due diligence, financial modeling, and deal structuring
  • Experience working with or investing in SMEs, with a focus on value creation and governance support.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and risk assessment.
  • Advanced level skills in in Excel, including financial modeling, scenario analysis, and use of advanced functions; familiarity with PowerPoint and other relevant tools required.
  • Demonstrable experience in building three statement financial models and an advanced understanding of how the three statements flow together.
  • Proven ability to prepare high-quality investment materials and communicate clearly with investment committees and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and present complex information clearly.
  • Strong knowledge of the Rwandan business environment and/or broader East African investment landscape.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Conduct financial, commercial, and industry analysis to support deal sourcing and due diligence efforts.
  • Build detailed financial models and perform credit analyses for potential investments. Ability to perform equity and valuation analysis is considered a plus
  • Assist in preparing investment memos and presentation materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the execution of transactions, including coordination of all aspects of due diligence and drafting investment related memos.
  • Monitor the financial and operational performance of portfolio companies.
  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly reports, board materials, and updates for Limited Partners (LPs).
  • Help identify and track key risks and opportunities across the portfolio.
  • Support communication and relationship management with portfolio companies, co-investors, and advisors.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge building and market research initiatives.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; CFA, ACCA, or MBA is a plus.
