Our client is a prominent Pan-African Asset Management firm expanding its operations in Rwanda.

As part of its commitment to fostering private sector development, the firm is setting up a local investment fund dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The successful candidate will not only be instrumental in the fund’s success in Rwanda but will also contribute to broader regional initiatives, helping drive impactful and sustainable economic growth across Africa.

Job Purpose

The Vice President (Investment Professional) will be a senior member of the local team, responsible for leading investment strategy, sourcing and executing deals, managing the portfolio, and driving value creation across investments. This Kigali-based role requires deep knowledge of the local financial ecosystem and a strong professional network in East Africa.

Specific Skills
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in private equity, fund management, corporate finance, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with a solid foundation in accounting, valuation, and risk management.
  • Proven track record of leading transactions, including structuring and negotiating term sheets and legal documentation.
  • Experience working with SMEs, including active participation in board engagements and strategic decision-making.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify credit risks, monitor investment performance, and manage distressed situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver complex financial information to varied audiences.
  • Leadership experience with a strong ability to manage teams and collaborate across functions.
  • Advanced level skills in Excel, including advanced financial modeling, complex formulas, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and use of macros; familiarity with other financial analysis tools is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Regional knowledge and network in East Africa, with a preference for candidates familiar with the Rwandan market.
Responsibilities & Duties
  • Lead end-to-end investment processes, including deal origination, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and execution.
  • End to end responsibility for the three statements financial models and own the driving assumptions on which the model is built
  • Conduct thorough financial and commercial due diligence on prospective investments, evaluating business models, industry trends, and financial viability.
  • Prepare and present investment memos to the Investment Committee, with clear buy/sell recommendations.
  • Oversee portfolio management activities, including financial monitoring, performance analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Engage directly with portfolio companies to drive value creation, support strategic initiatives, and represent the fund at board level.
  • Prepare quarterly portfolio updates and performance reports for Limited Partners (LPs).
  • Create and present materials for LP Advisory Committees (LPAC) and fund governance boards.
  • Lead or participate in restructuring and turnaround situations, when needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including company management teams, advisors, co-investors, and market participants.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; CFA, ACCA, or MBA is a plus.
